Fergal Harkin made an emotional farewell at Dalymount Park, but the visitors nearly spoiled the party with Robbie Martin denied deep in injury time.

Harkin, who won a league medal in 2002/2003, was handed the skipper's armband for the night with Bohemians aiming to steal second spot off St Pat's in what was their penultimate game of the season.

Bohemians went into the game on the back of five straight wins, while Longford needed a win here to stand any real chance of avoiding the drop heading into the last game of the season.

The Town began brightly, with Daire Doyle's piledriver on five minutes deflected away by a Bohemians defender.

And then at the other end, Bohemians had claims for a penalty turned down after Darren Mansaram's shot had seemed to come off the hand off a Longford defender.

And David Mooney, the league's leading goalscorers, should have done better with an effort on 28 minutes after being released by Sean Prunty.

But with just Bohemians keeper Brian Murphy to beat, Mooney could only hit a weak shot straight at the netminder.

Bohemians began to open up their opponents in the final five minutes with a long crossfield ball from Crowe finding Mark Rossiter just outside the box.

The right back was just a few inches off with his effort and then with three minutes to go, Turner put Crowe clean through on goal.

Crowe however placed his shot wide to the 'keeper's left and then straight after the break, Crowe's side footed effort from the left was smothered by the 'keeper.

Longford came close to stealing a late winner with Robbie Martin's shot cleared off the line from Dessie Baker's corner deep into injury time.
