Finn Harps edged closer to the First Division title by overcoming Kildare County before an expectant Finn Park crowd in Ballybofey.

The Donegal club remain a point clear of Cobh Ramblers with just two games to go.

Harps opened the scoring on 14 minutes when Kildare struggled to clear the ball from defence and Stephen Parkhouse, who scored the winner for the Donegal club last week, fired low and hard past Colin Cassidy.

Earlier Marc Brolly had gone close following a corner and Michael Funston was then shot across the face of goal as Harps dictated matters.

However, Kildare drew level against the run of play on 22 minutes. Harps midfielder Shaun McGowan lost possession and Cathal Brady played the ball through for Philip Gorman to score.

Eloka Asokuh was then denied by Kildare goalkeeper Colin Cassidy on 36 minutes but Harps were well below their best in the closing stages of the half.

Harps peppered the Kildare goal early in the second half and their efforts were rewarded on 52 minutes when Marc Brolly crossed for the in-rushing John O'Loughlin to make it 2-1.

And Harps then struck again five minutes later with McGowan pouncing from close range after Cassidy failed to hold a cross.
Conor Gethins, Michael Funston and Chris Breen all went close for Harps in the final quarter.

It was far from Harps' best performance in recent games, but they have now won eight games in a row and the destiny of the title is in their own hands.
