Stephen Elliott is the latest player to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Elliot has been ruled out of the games against Germany and Cyprus after picking up a hamstring injury during Tuesday’s training session and has returned to Wolves.

Ireland manager Steve Staunton confirmed Elliott’s absence following this morning’s final training session at Malahide United’s Gannon Park. The squad will train at Croke Park on Friday.

Andy Reid, John O'Shea and Darren Potter all took part in light training today, but remain doubtful.

Staunton said: ‘We’re going to give John O’Shea and Andy Reid as much time as we can. They done their own bit of training today, more than yesterday, but it’s coming close to Saturday night. We’ll give them every possible chance of being fit.’
