A man-of-the-match performance from Sligo Rovers keeper Richard Brush earned his side a 0-0 draw with Derry City at the Showgrounds in the eircom League Premier Division.

Brush denied Patrick McCourt, Mark Farren, Peter Hutton, Sean Hargan and Kevin McHugh in an entertaining game, as Rovers played out their first scoreless draw of the season.

The recalled Keith Foy almost won it for the home side with just four minutes left, but his free-kick from the right-hand side of the area clipped the outside of the post.

Rovers were without the suspended Seamus Coleman and the injured Jamie MacKenzie, while Derry were forced into an early change as Sammy Morrow picked up a knock and was replaced by Farren.

An entertaining opening half in front of a big crowd at the Showgrounds ended scoreless and failed to produce many real chances.

The intensity remained in the second-half, and both keeper Brush and defender Gavin Peers were called into action to prevent Farren and McHugh from opening the scoring.

McCourt's involvement ended three minutes later due to injury, but McHugh went close again for the Candystripes, after breaking into the area and forcing a fine save from Brush, low to his right.

Rovers too had their chances, and Brian Cash's cross was headed just over by Adam Hughes, while Conor O'Grady almost got through after breaking through the centre, but his touch inside the area was just too heavy.
