Chelsea are on the brink of finally completing the signing of Sevilla's Daniel Alves.
Reports in Spain were last night suggesting the Alves deal was imminent after he was left out of Sevilla's squad for the Champions League third qualifying round first-leg tie against AEK Athens.
The highly-rated Brazilian wideman has not been selected by Juande Ramos for tonight's home encounter, despite being fit, and the decision to omit him from the side has heightened speculation that he is set to get his dream move to Chelsea.
The 24-year-old is keen to join the Blues - and while Ramos describes Alves as a very important part of his team, he admits his days could be numbered.
‘It's true that Daniel has an important role in this team, especially in our attacking play,’ said the manager.
‘It's also true that two teams like Madrid and Chelsea are trying to acquire his services.
‘We will try to overcome his absence (against Athens) with another player who will show the same ambition as him.’
