Roy O'Donovan's proposed move from Cork City to Sunderland is a major step closer to completion after the two clubs agreed a deal for the eircom League's top scorer.

O'Donovan had been expected to move to Fulham but Sunderland swooped in with a late deal that will see them pay €500,000 for the player, which could rise to €1million based on appearances and international caps.

The deal is subject to the player passing a medical and agreeing personal terms, however O'Donovan is believed to be keen to link up with Black Cats boss Roy Keane, and the deal is expected to go through this week.

O'Donovan has scored 14 times in the eircom Premier this season and is a Republic of Ireland under-21 international
