Sligo Rovers claimed a massive win that moves them above Cork City and Bohemians into fourth place and puts a big dent in the home side's title hopes at Turner's Cross.
There had been much speculation about the future of Cork striker Roy O'Donovan with reports linking him with a move to Roy Keane's Sunderland, but those developments have as yet not been concluded, so he started for the home side.
Damien Richardson was without the injured Joe Gamble and John O'Flynn, with Sean Kelly suspended. Into the side came Billy Woods, Admir Softic and Leon McSweeney, with Denis Behan making way for top scorer O'Donovan.
Sligo nearly jumped in front after just four minutes as Fahrudin Kudozovic clipped a shot off the home crossbar.
However, they didn’t have to wait long to take the lead and were in front after just 14 minutes when Adam Hughes found the corner of Michael Devine's net with a low drive.
The visitors then struck the crossbar again as Mark Boyd hit a rasping shot from 25 yards with goalkeeper Michael Devine beaten.
Cork drew level on 32 minutes when Gareth Farrelly set up O'Donovan who squeezed home a shot from an acute angle for his 14th league goal and 21st in all competitions this season.
City should have scored again but Leon McSweeney blazed over from a Neale Horgan cross just before the break.
Paul Cook's side, however, made it six league wins from their last eight matches when Kudozovic curled a free-kick over the wall and past goalkeeper Devine ten minutes into the second half.
