Newcastle United have signed England forward Alan Smith from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old has agreed a five-year deal with the Magpies after three years at Old Trafford.
The former Leeds United player's time with the Barclays Premier League champions was affected by injury and he managed only 93 appearances, scoring 12 goals.
Smith will join his former Elland Road team-mates Mark Viduka and James Milner.
Smith could make his debut in a friendly against Italian club Sampdoria on Sunday at St James' Park.
