It is as you were at the top of the FAI eircom League of Ireland Premier Division table after this cracking Dublin derby ended in stalemate.

The result means Drogheda United remain a point clear of St Patrick's Athletic at the top with Shamrock Rovers two points behind in third place.

The game had a good edge to it from the off and though St Pat's had a good deal of the early possession, Rovers' directness saw them carve out the first four chances.

Saints' keeper Barry Ryan clawed away a David Cassidy cross as early as the second minute before Stephen Paisley had to make a last-ditch tackle to take the ball off the toe of Tadhg Purcell.

Cassidy then fired wide across goal when he might have got his effort on target - and all that inside the first five minutes.

Ryan's goal continued to be the busier as the Saints' keeper had to save with his feet at the butt of a post from David Tyrrell's shot.

Ger Rowe was then guilty of the miss of the half on 26 minutes. A mistake by Paisley gifted the ball to Cassidy who picked out Rowe in acres of space inside the box, but the striker could not keep the ball down and volleyed well over the top.

Rovers remained the better side into the second and Saints' defender Stephen Brennan had to make a brilliant headed clearance off the line from Purcell's header from a Tyrrell corner on 54 minutes.

Saints came right into the match over the last third and began to create chances for the first time.

Ryan Guy shot straight at Barry Murphy before Darragh Maguire got on the end of Guy's flick from Anto Murphy's long throw to again shoot into the grateful arms of Murphy.

Saints then thought they had taken the lead on 67 minutes when Quigley connected with Murphy's cross form the right, but Murphy made a terrific save with one hand to somehow keep the ball out of the net.
