Don't rule out Finn Harps in the First Division promotion race - that was the message from Finn Park after they outplayed Kildare County.

The Donegal side picked up points on all the sides above them as they moved up to fourth in the table.

Harps, who went into the game on the back of a five match unbeaten run, were on top for early on in what turned out to be a totally one-sided first half.

Conor Gethins, John O'Loughlin, Shaun Holmes and Declan Boyle all went close for the home side before Seamus Brown finally opened the scoring on 28 minutes.

Picking up the ball with his back to goal outside the box, he turned before unleashing a swerving shot that beat the diving and overworked Colin Cassidy.

Harps really should have had the game wrapped up by the interval but squandered further chances, the best of which fell to Gethins who fired past Cassidy saw his shot come back off the post on 40 minutes.

Conor Gethins sealed victory with a low drive on 74 minutes and Kildare's night of woe continued when Philip Gorman was sent off late on after clashing with Matthew Crossan.
