It may have been his toughest season as a professional footballer, but David Beckham was all smiles at the last after helping Real Madrid clinch their first Primera Liga title since 2003.

Beckham admitted earlier this week that the last 12 months had probably been the hardest of his 15-year career.

Not only did he lose his starting place with both club and country, but he also had to cope with injuries, major decisions about his future and being told in January he would never play for Madrid again.

But the former England captain was able to put all that behind him on Sunday as he won his first piece of major silverware with Madrid since joining the Spanish giants four years ago.

'It's been an incredible experience - but all I remember now is the great things,' he said following Madrid's 3-1 home win over Real Mallorca, a victory that clinched the title.

'Winning this tonight now puts to bed everything else.'
