Striker Paul Dunphy became the first Bray Wanderers player since John Ryan to notch a hat-trick in the FAI Ford Cup as the Premier Division side eased into the last 16 with a 7-0 hammering of 25 minutes against Leinster Senior League side St Mochtas.

The former Bohemians man netted three times in 25 first half minutes at the Carlisle Grounds afternoon to emulate the Seagulls 1990 Cup final hero.

The Seasiders got off to a great start.

With barely two minutes gone, a quick free-kick picked out James O'Shea on the right flank, his jinking run ended with a 20-yard drive that Anthony O'Connor brilliantly tipped out for a corner with a one-handed save.

But the Leinster Senior League side's joy was short-lived as Alan Cawley whipped in the resultant flag-kick.

It bounced in the box and dropped at the far post were Stefan Buttner bundled the ball over his own line under pressure from Colm Tresson and Dunphy.

It got even better for the Wicklow side in the 17th minute.

Tresson's great pass over the top released Mark Duggan to beat the offside. He teed up Irish Under-19 international O'Shea whose first time drive was blocked by O’Connor's legs.

The loose ball fell to the waiting Dunphy who tapped into an empty net from four yards.

The result was put beyond doubt just three minutes later when Cawley floated in a free from the left and Tresson ghosted in to volley his 70th goal for Wanderers to the roof of the net from ten yards

The one-way traffic continued as the Seagulls notched a fourth in the 27th minute.

O'Shea threaded a pass for Tresson to run onto to down the right channel and his drive deflected off Dunphy and looped beyond O'Connor from eight yards.

Dunphy claimed his third in the 42nd minute. From another ball along the right wing, Dunphy skinned Glen McLoughlin and drilled past the Saints 'keeper at the near post.

Substitute John Broderick got in on the act in the 48th minute, just after coming on as an interval replacement for Stephen Fox.

Tresson squared to Dunphy in the box but his effort was parried well by O'Connor with Broderick pouncing for his first senior goal.

Wanderers had to wait until the 76th minute before claiming the seventh goal.

From sub Derek Tyrrell's cross-field pass, Dunphy's lay-off released Gary McCabe along the left to fire low under reserve custodian Warren Fee.
