Cobh Ramblers humbled Kildare County at Colman's Park on Tuesday. The victory sees Ramblers stretch their unbeaten run to eleven games.
They raced into a two goal lead after 14 minutes with
strikes from John Kearney and Gareth Cambridge, before
a Ger Robinson header reduced the lead on 26 minutes.
A penalty from captain Alan Carey made it 3-1 at the
break with Cambridge adding his second and Davin
O'Neill completing the scoring in the second half.
Ramblers again included 17 year old goalkeeper Stephen Deasy in place of the first choice
James McCarthy - who has a hand injury after an accident
at home.
Kildare's had both goalkeeper John Flynn and midfielder Alan Byrne suspended.
Austin O'Neill who was returning between the
posts for the visitors after suspension was beaten
twice in the opening quarter of an hour.
Midfielder John Kearney added to his goal in Donegal
by firing a low shot into the net on nine minutes and
Gareth Cambridge belted home a second five minutes
later.
With the home side going well John Ryan's side pulled
a goal back when Ger Robinson headed home a corner
kick from Stapleton in the 26th minute.
Ramblers captain Alan Carey restored his sides two
goal advantage from the penalty spot after 41 minutes
after lively winger Davin O'Neill was brought down in
the penalty area.
Stephen Henderson's young side continued to attack
after the break and were rewarded with further goals,
Cambridge scored his second and his sides fourth goal,
dispossessing goalkeeper O'Neill before finding the
net.
Cobh completed the scoring when Davin O'Neill played
a one two with substitute Kieran O'Reilly and then finished the move.
The victory makes it nine wins and two draws from
their last eleven first division games.
