South African World Cup chiefs insist preparations for the 2010 finals are on course and that there will be no need for England to step in as contingency hosts.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter last week said England could help put if there was a natural catastrophe or 'change in society' in South Africa.

The English government, the FA and the Premier League have already provided considerable help to preparations for South Africa to host the finals.

Danny Jordaan, president of the 2010 World Cup organising committee, told a press briefing at the Soccerex conference at Wembley: 'Our country does not have a history of natural disasters so you do not need to look anywhere else.

'Our stadia are being built, FIFA has already generated for 2010 in South Africa the highest-ever revenue for a World Cup - 3.2billion US dollars (£1.6billion), higher than Germany 2006.

'South African companies have already committed 100 million US dollars (£50million), higher than the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan. All inspection visits have concluded that South Africa 2010 is on track and in fact that we are doing very well.'
