Cobh Ramblers recorded their fourth win in a row as they moved into third position in the FAI eircom First Division, following a 2-0
win over Kilkenny City at St Coleman's Park.
The home side struck twice in the second half through
midfielder Kenny Coleman as Stephen Henderson's side
moved on to nine points in the table.
Coleman drove home his first in a crowded penalty area
ten minutes after the break, and then scored a second
after a good pass from substitute Jamie Nolan.
Both sides came into the match in reasonable form,
Cobh having won their previous four games, including two
league wins over Finn Harps and Kildare and a mid-week
League Cup victory over Limerick.
Kilkenny drew last week at home with Shelbourne
following their away win in Monaghan.
But it was the home team that started the livelier, with Michael
O'Shea volleying Kieran O'Reilly's cross over the bar after 18 minutes.
But Ramblers continued their recent good run with
those two second half strikes from the former
Wolverhampton Wanderers and Kidderminster Harriers
player Kenny Coleman.
Coleman's first on 54 minutes was struck home from 15
yards after the visiting defence failed to clear the
ball.
The clinching second goal came when substitute Jamie
Nolan thread a beautiful ball through to Coleman, who
rolled the ball past the advancing Kilkenny goalkeeper
John McGuiness.
One of the features of tonight's game was that both the assistant referees were female: Hilda McDermott and Aishling Looney
were running the touchlines.
