Aidan O'Keefe's 48th minute goal saw Drogheda United edge to a 1-0 Setanta Sports Cup victory over Glentoran at the Oval.
Drogheda started the brighter and Richie Baker went close early on but was unable to convert.
Glentoran slowly came into the game and would have taken a lead into the break were it not for two fine saves from Drogs' goalkeeper Dan Connor - first from Gary Hamilton's shot then from a Jason Hill effort.
The visitors broke the deadlock on 48 minutes when O'Keefe neatly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Michael Dougherty after Simon Webb's clever through ball had played him in.
Drogheda had chances to add to their lead in the second half.
O'Keeffe really should have claimed his second of the night but he managed to blast his shot wide when he looked certain to score.
Ollie Cahill also had wasted a good chance late on when he blazed his effort across the face of the goal with Baker well placed to find the net if only Cahill had delivered the right ball.
