England have called up Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry for their Euro 2008 qualifiers as coach Steve McClaren re-shuffled his defence after losing Gary Neville to injury.
Barry, a midfielder who has played at left-back for Villa this season, joins a squad hit by injury and suspension before Saturday's Group E qualifier in Israel.
Barry, whose omission from McClaren's original 23-man party was criticised by Villa boss Martin O'Neill, fills the vacancy created by the absence of Neville.
Neville has been ruled out by an ankle injury sustained on Saturday with Manchester United.
England have slipped to third in Group E with seven points, one behind Russia and three behind leaders Croatia.
the pressure is mounting on McClaren following the defeat in Croatia and a draw at home with Macedonia.
