PSV Eindhoven's Brazilian defender Alex has revealed his 'dream' of joining Chelsea.

Fresh from scoring the goal that put PSV into the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Arsenal, the 24-year-old expressed his desire to play in England.

'I'm glad if my winning goal against Arsenal makes Chelsea happy and it would be a dream to play for such a great club,' Alex said in the Sun.

Reports suggest the Barclays Premiership champions already own the player - signing him from Santos three seasons ago - and have allowed him to play for their Dutch counterparts.

However, Chelsea insist the only agreement in place is an option to purchase Alex at the end of the season.

Alex said: 'Chelsea bought me from Santos and I know my contract belongs to them.'

The Brazilian added that he was expecting to move to Stamford Bridge last summer but the move was blocked. 'I don't understand why the coach did that,' he said.

'Apparently, there was a problem with a permit and I had to go back to PSV.'

As for the prospect of drawing Chelsea in this morning's Champions League quarter-finals, Alex added: 'It would not worry me if we get Chelsea in the quarter-finals because that would give me another chance to show what I am capable of as a player.'
