Cork City have moved to strengthen their squad ahead of the start of the new season by signing former Bohemians player/manager Gareth Farrelly.

Farrelly, who parted company with Bohemians after a string of bad results towards the end of last season, still has much to offer as a player and joins Cork on a two-year contract.

Manager Damien Richardson told www.corkcityfc.ie : 'I have long been an admirer of Gareth and I see his elegant footballing skills being a great catalyst for a successful future.'

Farrelly also expressed his delight with the move and added: 'The ambition of the club presented to me by Damien Richardson has whetted my appetite greatly and I look forward to two very productive years with City.'

The former Irish international who has seven international caps and vast Premiership experience is expected to return to Cork to sign the contract next Monday, as he finalises his move from Blackpool to Cork.

Cork are also still chasing former Irish international Colin Healy ahead of the new season.
