Shelbourne Chief Executive Ollie Byrne is likely to undergo surgery, after he was taken to St James Hospital yesterday evening.
Byrne was taken ill while at his desk at Tolka Park yesterday and was admitted to hospital last night.
Byrne has been under immense pressure since Shelbourne won the eircom Premier League in November, because of the club's financial troubles.
Shels lost manager Pat Fenlon to Derry, while the league winning squad has been torn apart with many senior players leaving the club over the non-payment of wages.
The club are down to a bare-bones playing staff as they prepare for their forth-coming Champions League qualifying campaign.
