AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani will travel to Spain on Monday in the hope of completing a deal for Real Madrid striker Ronaldo.
The 30-year-old former Inter Milan forward, who is under contract with Real, has been linked with a return to Serie A.
Real want to sell the Brazilian international before the end of the winter transfer market.
'Ronaldo has said that he only wants Milan,' said Galliani on the club's official website.
'He has had the authorisation from Real Madrid to negotiate with other teams and there's absolutely no problem with the Spanish club executives.
'If things go as planned, I will go to Madrid this Monday.'
However, Galliani has admitted there is still some way to go before an agreement can be reached with Madrid for the player.
'We cannot be too optimistic,' added Galliani. 'We are negotiating and we will see what happens.'
