Sylvain Distin will consider staying at Manchester City but only if the club are able to match his ambitions.

The French defender is out of contract at the end of the season and, as a result, is now able to sign a pre-contract with a team of his choosing.

But the 29-year-old insists he has not entered into talks with any of City's rivals and would like stay at the club under the right circumstances.

'I see my name being linked with many clubs. However, I have not spoken to anybody,' Distin told City's official website.

'I want to stay playing in the Premiership and my preference is to stay here at Manchester City.

'I will give my total effort for the football club - as I have always done. I have been at City for nearly five years and am one of the longest serving players behind (goalkeeper) Nick Weaver.

'The next contract I will sign is very important for me as I am now 29 years old and I need everything to be correct with it. I have ambition and I want to make sure that the next contract I sign is with somebody who has the same ambitions as me.'
