Sheffield United captain Chris Morgan has been found guilty of violent conduct and banned for three games by the Football Association.
Morgan was charged after appearing to punch Robin van Persie in the Blades' victory against Arsenal on 30 December.
He denied the charge today but a disciplinary commission decided to suspend the defender.
An FA statement said: ‘Referee Lee Mason confirmed to the FA that he did not see the incident but would have shown Morgan a red card for violent conduct if he had seen it.’
Meanwhile, Charlton's Osei Sankofa has had a claim for wrongful dismissal rejected by the disciplinary commission.
The Charlton defender was sent off for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity during Tuesday's Barclays Premiership match against Arsenal.
The commission also decided that the claim was ‘frivolous' and have given Sankofa an additional one-match suspension, meaning he will therefore miss the club's next two matches - Saturday's FA Cup third round tie at Nottingham Forest and the Barclays Premiership home match against Middlesbrough on 13 January.
