David Connolly's injury-time goal completed an impressive late fightback by Sunderland and preserved their seven-match unbeaten run, drawing 2-2 with Burnley at Turf Moor this afternoon.
Kyle Lafferty had scored early on in each half to set Burnley on their way towards victory, with the 19-year-old Northern Ireland international doubling his tally for the season.
Clarets goalkeeper Danny Coyne barely had a save to make, particularly in the second half, before Grant Leadbitter narrowed the gap with a fine strike in the 80th minute to set up a tense finish.
And Connolly, who had a quiet afternoon, popped up with a superb strike from 25 yards to nick a point which had looked unlikely for the majority of the game.
Sunderland began strongly but Burnley should have taken the lead after five minutes when Gifton Noel-Williams planted a header from Micah Hyde's cross wide of goal.
And in the ninth minute, the Clarets got themselves in front with a fine break-away move. John McGreal robbed Daryl Murphy and Steve Jones' clipped ball sent Wade Elliott clean through the middle.
The winger's pass split the Black Cats' defence and Lafferty guided the ball past Darren Ward from just inside the area.
Stephen Elliott had Sunderland's first real effort on goal in the 18th minute but failed to prompt more than a routine save from Danny Coyne.
The visitors grew in confidence and Wayne Thomas blocked Murphy's shot before Lafferty had to clear off the line from Steven Caldwell's header.
With Burnley finishing the first half strongly, Lafferty cut inside Danny Collins but sliced his shot well wide.
Elliott should have doubled Burnley's lead four minutes into the second period but lashed his shot wide after Jones' cross to the far post.
But in the 52nd minute, Lafferty doubled the lead with another clinical effort, showing good anticipation to capitalise on a dreadful Dwight Yorke header to slot past Ward.
The visitors had little immediate response and only Caldwell's cynical challenge stopped Jones releasing Lafferty for a third time.
Ross Wallace's powerful strike flew just high and wide of Coyne's goal before Lafferty blocked on the line again from Murphy.
With 11 minutes left, the game looked as good as over before Leadbitter blasted in from 20 yards to give the Black Cats hope.
Jones should have restored the home side's two-goal advantage after racing onto John Spicer's pass but Caldwell made a crucial challenge as he was about to shoot.
Much of the final 10 minutes were spent with Sunderland flying forward, although Burnley looked to set to take the points before Connolly produced a late moment of magic.
