Pat Fenlon is the new manager of Derry City after putting pen-to-paper on a deal to take charge of the Candystripes.

The 37-year-old Dubliner agreed a three year full-time contract with the double cup winners and takes charge immediately.

The former Shelbourne manager succeeds Stephen Kenny, who left the Brandywell to join Scottish club Dunfermline.

Fenlon parted company with Shelbourne after leading them to the eircom League title due to financial problems within the club.

Fenlon's first task will be to speak to the six out of contract players at the Brandywell and those meetings are expected to take place early next week.

'Derry City are a highly successful and ambitious club and I’m really looking forward to working with the players and everyone at the club,' Fenlon said.

A press conference to officially unveil Fenlon as the new Derry manager is expected to take place on Tuesday.

The news will come as another boost to the Candystripes, who earlier today received an extra €100,000 as a result of their UEFA Cup run.

The windfall follows a UEFA decision to award additional funds to all 80 clubs that played in the first round of this season's competition.
