Aston Villa v Middlesbrough team news

Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton is a fitness doubt for the home Barclays Premiership clash with Middlesbrough.

The former Celtic player is being troubled by a calf muscle problem. If he is ruled out, Milan Baros could replace him after impressing in the reserves in midweek.

The midfield duo of Gavin McCann and Stiliyan Petrov are available after missing the goalless draw at Wigan through suspension and a hamstring injury respectively.

Defender Aaron Hughes is also back in contention after resuming training. The Northern Ireland skipper has been sidelined for two games with a groin problem.

Squad: Sorensen, Taylor, Hughes, Mellberg, Cahill, Ridgewell, Bouma, Agbonlahor, Davis, McCann, Petrov, Barry, Osbourne, Whittingham, Agathe, Angel, Sutton, Baros.

England winger Stewart Downing is rated at only 50-50 for Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old is still recovering from the groin problem which kept him out of last weekend's 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

Skipper George Boateng should make it after limping off with a knock against the Reds and Andrew Davies (ankle) is expected to be fit, but Mark Viduka (broken toes) and Stuart Parnaby (foot) remain on the sidelines.

Provisional squad: Schwarzer, Jones, Turnbull, Xavier, Davies, Huth, Woodgate, Pogatetz, Taylor, Arca, Boateng, Downing, Cattermole, Morrison, Rochemback, Euell, Mendieta, Yakubu, Maccarone, Graham.
