Graham Cummins' 30th-minute goal was enough to give Cobh Ramblers their third win in row at Station Road tonight as Kildare County’s terrible home form continued, the game finished 1-0 to the visitors.
Kildare were the better team in the opening stages and dominated possession but they couldn’t break down the visiting defence and Cobh took the lead with a breakaway goal. Davin O’Neill turned Alan McDermott on the halfway and broke forward before slipping a pass through to Cummins.
He tried to cross the ball to the back post but the cross deceived Kennedy and ended up in the net.
Four minutes later, Philly Byrne’s charge forward led to Kildare’s best chance of the game. He crossed to Philly Gorman but his shot was blocked by Kevin Murray, the ball broke to Paul Rigney but James McCarthy saved well from the young winger.
Cobh improved after the break and Steve Yelverton and Conor Falvey went close early on.
Kildare brought Matt Rigney and Dave Scully on as they went in chase of the game but in truth, they never looked like threatening the Cobh goal and the visitors hung on for a comfortable win.
