Two-goal Miller keeps feet on the ground

Kenny Miller believes Celtic have given themselves a massive chance of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time with their comprehensive 3-0 home win over Benfica.

The Scotland striker grabbed a second-half double and an 89th minute strike by substitute Stephen Pearson, who had only replaced Evander Sno moments earlier, sealed the victory and left the Parkhead side second behind Manchester United in Group F with three games to go.

But while enjoying the euphoria of another great European night at Parkhead, the Hoops hero warned that the Bank of Scotland Premier League champions face two more titanic clashes with the Lisbon side and group leaders United before they can clinch their place in the knock-out stages.

Miller said: 'It's brilliant - a massive result and it puts us in a strong position.

'The job's not done yet but we've given ourselves a good opportunity.

'We still have tough games against Man United here and Benfica away, but we've done what we said we had to by winning our two home games after losing the first in Manchester.

'It was a great performance from everyone involved.'

Miller admitted that his first strike ten minutes after the interval was crucial after an impressive first-half which failed to produce a goal.

He said: 'If you don't get a goal it can come back and haunt you. The goals came at a good time.'

The striker is confident success will come to Celtic if the players continue to turn in the sort of performance they did last night.

He said: 'We'll win things if we keep doing what we're doing.'

Pearson was pleased with his contribution despite only appearing in the final minutes of the game. He said: 'It was great to get on and score.

'Benfica are a good side and play good football but these are the sort of nights you want to be involved in.

'We've given ourselves a chance. I thought we were worthy of 3-0 the way we played.

'It shows the strength of the squad when we had so many players missing.'
