Don Givens has told his new recruits to go out and produce a display to keep their jerseys when the Republic of Ireland's Under-21s meet Luxembourg in a friendly.
The Irish have brought a novice squad with them to Mamer for the game, which is the start of a new process for Givens after his last crop of players narrowly missed out on UEFA qualification.
With several established players missing this fixture due to club commitments and injuries, Givens is looking to some of the new names to make an impression.
He said: 'There are a few lads in this group that I've not worked with before so it is a chance for them to stake a claim. The thing with this age group is that we have a lot of players of similar ability so if somebody can produce a big display it could seal their long-term place in the squad.'
Givens is particularly keen to see Arsenal defender Joe O'Cearuill in action for the first time in an Irish shirt.
The manager said: 'Joe has really impressed me and you can see he has the hallmarks of an Arsenal player. If he can develop well he could be one of those players who comes late to make his mark in the game.
'I watched him play at right-back for the Arsenal reserves against the Charlton first team last week and he didn't put a foot wrong.
He's first and foremost a good defender. He is comfortable on the ball and while he is essentially a centre-back, he is versatile too.
'Darren Stapleton and Mark Wilson have impressed me with how they've trained since we came together for this game.'
Former Reading defender Stapleton is currently without a club while Portsmouth midfielder Wilson is in the under-21s for the first time.
