Galway United recorded a record seventh straight league victory to go back to the top of the First Division with this 1-0 win over Finn Harps at Ballybofey.
Alan Murphy scored the winner on 64 minutes from the penalty spot after his cross struck the hand of Harps’ player-manager Anthony Gorman.
The visitors had survived a few nervy moments in the first half. The closest Harps came to scoring came after only ten minutes when Shane Bradley’s close range header was brilliantly saved by Alan Gough.
Harps also struck the woodwork when Stephen O’Donnell’s cross was deflected onto the post.
Galway’s Derek O’Brien saw his shot well saved by James Gallagher but the visitors eventually scored what proved the winner when Murphy sent Gallagher the wrong way from the penalty spot.
