Northern Ireland showed their mettle in Denmark to earn a welcome 0-0 draw to move third in their European Championship qualifying Group F clash.

Coming on the back of a stunning victory against Spain this was another defiant performance at the Parken.

Denmark were highly-fancied and dictated the play but they had to settle for a point.

The only downside for Northern Ireland was that Michael Duff's first-half booking came on the back of one against Iceland and means he is suspended for the match against Latvia on Wednesday.

Denmark made a bright start and Peter Lovenkrands headed wide from a good position in the fourth minute after Northern Ireland were exposed.

It was a poor effort following a neat build up involving Martin Jorgensen and Daniel Jensen.
Then Jorgensen lined up a shot from distance but failed to test Taylor.

Jorgensen was being given too much room and powered in a shot after nine minutes that stung the goalkeeper's fingers.

There was another moment of danger for Northern Ireland in the 12th minute when Jon Dahl Tomasson chipped the ball into Taylor's arms after being set up by Jorgensen.

Tomasson almost put Denmark ahead in the 17th minute following a pinpoint cross from Niclas Jensen, only for his header to go narrowly wide of the post.

Denmark kept up the pressure and Lovenkrands steered a header wide after 24 minutes following a free kick from Daniel Agger.

Northern Ireland managed to get their first shot on target in the 29th minute through Kyle Lafferty.

The 19-year-old Burnley striker turned quickly 25 yards out but goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen was able to take his effort with a degree of comfort.

Then Steven Davis tried to release Lafferty after a good run but the move broke down after he strayed offside.

This was a better spell by Northern Ireland and Sammy Clingan found Lafferty with a free kick from the right.

However the youngster could not get any power on his header and Sorensen made the save.

Denmark looked dangerous going forward and Lovenkrands tried to pick out Tomasson but Taylor made the interception.

Northern Ireland rode their luck again in the 42nd minute when Jorgensen's effort from the edge of the area was deflected to safety.

Then Jonny Evans cleared the ball two yards out after Taylor could only parry Thomas Kahlenberg's effort.

Northern Ireland won a free kick 30 yards out in the 47th minute but Healy cleared the bar with his ambitious effort.

Jorgensen almost broke the deadlock in the 49th minute when he cut across the area only to see his shot go the wrong side of the post.

Northern Ireland, however, were looking a bit brighter and Healy got away from Agger a minute later and forced Sorensen to make the save.

Northern Ireland boss Sanchez made his first change in the 57th minute, bringing on Johnson for Clingan, who had put in hard shift.

Healy was coming more into the game and forced Agger to concede a corner on the hour after putting the Liverpool defender under pressure.

Denmark were continuing to dictate the pace and Evans, just 18, picked up a yellow card for a challenge on Jensen on the edge of the area.

Lafferty came off in the 63rd minute and was replaced by his Burnley team-mate Steve Jones.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Sorensen was then forced to come off in the 69th minute, clutching his shoulder, after a challenge with Evans and replaced by Jesper Christiansen.

Denmark went close again to making the breakthrough in the 71st minute with Kahlenberg's effort whistling past Taylor but past the post as well.

Hughes was perfectly positioned in the 82nd minute to head away a goal-bound shot from substitute Claus Jensen.

Then Agger cleared the bar in the 87th minute from 25 yards as Northern Ireland held out for a point.
