Ferdinand misses out for West Ham

West Ham United centre-back Anton Ferdinand has a calf injury and will miss tomorrow's UEFA Cup first-round clash against Palermo.

The 21-year-old picked up the injury during Saturday's defeat at Eastlands, with Christian Dailly able to move into the centre of defence.

Boss Alan Pardew is waiting on the fitness of defenders James Collins (groin) and Tyrone Mears (calf).

Provisional squad: Carroll, Green, Walker, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Konchesky, Spector, Dailly, Benayoun, Mullins, Mascherano, Reo-Coker, Bowyer, Sheringham, Cole, Harewood, Zamora, Tevez.
