Cork City are refusing to relinquish their Championship crown and tonight they moved into third place in the table, following a hard earned 1-0 victory over a young and spirited Bohemians side at Turners Cross.

Damien Richardson's side had the better of the first-half and deservedly scored the only goal of the game after 24 minutes. A Neale Fenn corner kick was headed on by defender Alan Bennett for Billy Woods to sweep the ball high into Stephen O'Brien's net at the far post.

But Bohemians gave tremendous effort to their care-taker managers Alan Caffery and Pat Cleary to take the match to Cork after the break.

Stephen Ward worked hard and was always a threat and he combined well with Aidan O'Keeffe as the visitor's forward line stretched the home defence.

Michael Devine in the Cork goal had to advance outside his area on several occasions to prevent an equalising goal, and O'Keeffe forced a fine save from the City netminder after 75 minutes, when his shot was parried away to safety.

Cork who lost injury plagued striker John O'Flynn at half time, he was replaced as a precaution after a slight niggle, with former Waterford player Vinny Sullivan coming into the attack.

The home side relied a lot on the pace of Roy O'Donovan and the good first touch of Neale Fenn to break and create chances, but in the end they were relieved to hear the final whistle as they have made it eleven games unbeaten in the League, as well as an unbeaten home record, which has helped them to stay in touch with title favourites Shelbourne and Derry City.
