A brilliant second half goal from Gerard Rowe's glossed over a poor display by Shamrock Rovers who failed to regain the leadership of the First Divison against their bogey side Limerick FC in a 1-1 draw at Tolka Park this afternoon.

The Shannonsiders punished a mistake to snatch the lead on the hour mark. Colm Heffernan was alert to intercept a poor throw out from keeper Barry Murphy to Ger O'Brien to race in and shoot home, despite Murphy getting a hand to the ball.

But Rovers hit back within four minutes when Rowe scored a terrific solo goal; weaving past several defenders in from the right before shooting past Austin O'Neill in the Limerick goal.

Rovers wasted the best chance of the first half on 37 minutes. Rowe, who'd headed over from a corner a minute earlier, skinned Limerick captain Pat Purcell down the right to cross and David Cassidy saw his weak shot taken off the line by Conor Molan when he knows he should have scored.
