Cobh keep title ambitions alive

Cobh Ramblers are still very much in the First Division title race after they came from behind to defeat Finn Harps 2-1 in Ballybofey.

Harps started in lively fashion and went ahead in the 11th minute when Stephen O'Donnell cut in from the right inside the box and made space before firing past Packie Holden.

But Cobh could well have drawn level before the break with Willie Bruton and David O'Neill both having shots saved by James Gallagher while Davy Warren saw his effort flash across the face of goal.

Eloka Asokuh spurned a good chance to double Harps' advantage when he shot over from close range early in the second half.

And Cobh then made it 1-1 on 56 minutes when Alan Carey curled home a 25 yard free past Gallagher.

The Finn Park faithful were then stunned again six minutes later when, on the counter attack, Darren Murphy put Cobh ahead with a thundering low drive from just outside the box.

Harps battled hard in the final stages but rarely threatened and Cobh could have added third when Bruton broke clear but failed to find the target.

This defeat for Harps more of less ends their already fiant title aspirations.
