David Cassidy scored a stunning brace while Barry Murphy saved a penalty as Shamrock Rovers beat Bohemians 2-0 and dumped their arch-rivals out of the FAI Cup to advance to the quarter-finals from this dramatic third round replay.

Bohs were left bemused as they trooped off at the interval a goal down having utterly dominated a one-sided first half on a corner count of 7-0.

Not having threatened once prior to that, Rovers scored with their first shot on target right on 45 minutes.

Tadhg Purcell, away onto Robbie Clarke's pass down the left, crossed low into the area and Ger Rowe set up Cassidy who drilled a shot past Stephen O’Brien.

Bohs threw everything at Rovers on the resumption, with John Paul Kelly winning a penalty on 53 minutes. But to the consternation of the Bohs fans, player/boss Gareth Farrelly's spot kick was brilliantly saved by Murphy.

Cassidy then put the gloss on Rovers' night with a super solo goal on 74 minutes; ghosting past three defenders before shooting to the net from 15 yards.
