Prospective Sunderland boss Roy Keane visited the club's training headquarters today as speculation mounted that his appointment is imminent.

The 35-year-old former Manchester United skipper was at the Academy of Light and is expected to be among the crowd for tomorrow's Coca-Cola Championship clash with West Bromwich Albion at the Stadium of Light.

Black Cats chairman Niall Quinn, furious that his interest in Keane had got out, revealed in midweek he was in talks with a high-profile figure.

There have been suggestions that an appointment could be announced as early as tonight, although the new man would not take charge until Tuesday.

Quinn, who promised to install a new manager within days after Tuesday night's embarrassing Carling Cup exit at Bury, and coach Bobby Saxton have prepared the side for tomorrow's game as they look for a first point of the season.
