Blackburn have completed the signing of Dutch defender Andre Ooijer from PSV Eindhoven.

The two clubs agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of £2million, for the 32-year-old yesterday.

Ooijer completed a medical and signed a two-year deal at Ewood Park this afternoon with the option of adding a third year.

The Dutchman can play at right-back or centre-half and was one of Rovers manager Mark Hughes' main targets.

His departure from PSV was virtually guaranteed when he made himself unavailable for last weekend's match against NEC Nijmegen.

Coach Ronald Koeman explained the player's absence from that match by saying of Ooijer: 'He indicated he was not mentally fit and felt incapable of playing.'

Ooijer becomes Blackburn's fifth summer signing, joining Jason Brown, Francis Jeffers, Jason Roberts and Benni McCarthy at the club.

Ooijer said: 'When a club like Blackburn comes in for you, it was a simple choice for me, I heard a lot from other players that Blackburn was a warm club, it sounded like my former club PSV.

'I spoke to Ruud van Nistelrooy and he was very positive and I'm really looking forward to beginning.'

'I'm very happy to be here,' he told Blackburn's official website, www.rovers.co.uk.

'I'm looking forward to playing, to see the stadium and everything.

'I wanted to move on and further my career and I think it is a good step for me to be here.'
