Galway rally rewarded with a point

Galway United and Finn Harps played out a 1-1 draw at Terryland Park that saw United move joint-top of the eircom League First Division.

Harps pinched a third-minute lead courtesy of a sweet Barry Curran drive. Matthew Crossan floated a neat ball into Curran’s path and the winger struck a venomous drive shot past veteran Galway goalkeeper Alan Gough.

But Galway recovered and fashioned a string of opportunities.

Alan Murphy was creating space and smashed two efforts on target which were well gathered by Harps custodian James Gallagher.

United eventually equalised in the 66th minute when Murphy converted a penalty after the dynamic Derek O’Brien was fouled.

Steven O’Donnell was dismissed for Harps, but Galway failed to find a winner as Ciaran Foley and Alan Keane both smashed efforts off the crossbar.
