Ramblers record home win over Athlone

Cobh Ramblers moved into clear second place on their own, three points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers, after a good win over Athlone at St Coleman's Park tonight.

Ramblers' lead goal came after 32 minutes when a Cobh corner kick was cleared as far as midfielder Steve Yelvereton, who struck a shot back past Athlone goalkeeper Danny O'Leary.

Cobh extended their lead on 52 minutes when young Graham Cummins headed home from close range for his second goal in two games.

Ramblers three points come at a time when Limerick's slide continued this week, with the dropping of two home point to bottom of the table Monaghan United and Galway United's unlucky defeat to Rovers at Tolka Park on Friday night.

Cobh manager Stephen Henderson continues to bring through young players like goalscorer Cummins, who made a scoring senior debut last week in the 1-1 away draw with Dundalk.

He followed that up with a headed goal on his St Coleman’s Park debut tonight.
