Derry City totally dominated struggling Waterford United tonight to move into second spot in the eircom League Premier Division table after an emphatic 4-0 rout at The Brandywell.
And it could have been more as the Foyleside club totally outplayed the managerless Blues, showing no signs of any European hangover following their midweek victory over IFK Gothenburg.
Derry broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Gary Beckett drove the ball home from the edge of the area.
And The Candystripes made it 2-0 when Darren Kelly scored minutes before half-time.
Kevin McHugh compounded Waterford's misery when he headed home Kevin Deery's corner in the 65th minute, his first league goal for the club.
Second half substitute Ciaran Martyn completed the rout in the 83rd minute after Beckett had set him up.
