Goals from Patrick Kavanagh and Brian Shortall inside five second half minutes turned this game on its head as UCD scored with their only efforts on target to defeat Waterford 2-1 at Belfield Park tonight.
Kavanagh struck the equaliser on 74 minutes after good work by Derek Doyle and Patrick McWalter for his first goal for College.
Central defender Brian Shortall then won it for College when powering home a header from Stephen Hurley's corner.
Paul McCarthy scored his first goal of the season to stun UCD after just nine minutes to Waterford in front. Daryl Kavanagh’s cross in from the left wasn't dealt with and Ian Fraher fed McCarthy who turned past keeper Darren Quigley to side foot home.
It might have been 2-0 but for Quigley's bravery at the feet of James Chambers six minutes later while the Blues midfielder then fired narrowly wide as the visitors maintained their bright start.
