Champions Cork beat Drogheda to go top

John O'Flynn's goal was enough for Cork City

Cork City returned to the top of the Eircom Premier Division, when John O'Flynn scored his 58th League goal in 105 games at Turners Cross to give the Champions a 1-0 victory.

The and only goal of the game came after 30 minutes when Cork captain Dan Murray sent a pass to striker O'Flynn, who rounded goalkeeper Dan Connor, before rolling the ball into an empty net.

City had the ball in the net on 77 minutes when Roy O'Donovan rolled the ball past Connor, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Drogheda never really threatened Michael Devine on the night, who had one good save from Glen Fitzpatrick, with his back four in good form throughout the ninety minutes.

So Damien Richardson's side gain revenge for defeat to the County Louth club in the FAI and Setanta Cup finals and now look forward to a trip to Bohemians on Tuesday night.
