Czech Republic 0-2 Italy

Full-time: Italy go through to the last 16 with a 2-0 win, which owed more to persistence and power, than poise and precision. It wasn't pretty, but they were deserved winners in the end. They will be joined in the second round by Ghana, who hung on to beat the USA 2-1 in Nuremburg.

90 mins Three minutes of stoppage time to be played.

87 mins GOAL! Italy break immediately and Inzaghi is sent clear on goal from the half-way line. He races in on goal, keeps his composure to round the advancing Cech, before sliding the ball into the empty net. Surelt that's Italy through! 0-2.

86 mins Nedved crosses for Heinz, but his header falls weakly into Buffon's arms.

83 mins Pirlo and forces his way into the box after combining with Simone Perrotta. As the ball breaks, Inzaghi fails to hit the target with a header from eight yards.

77 mins Czech striker Marek Heinz replaces defender Radoslav Kovac.

74 mins Italy make a final substitution, Simone Barone on for Camoranesi.

70 mins A great build-up sees the ball fall to Nedved 20 yards out, but again Buffon denies him with an excellent save. It's turning into a bit of a duel between the Juve friends.

53 mins Nedved goes close at the other end, timing his run beautifully to get in behind the Italian defence. However,  Buffon is equal to his left-footed drive.

52 mins Cech dives low to his right to deny Totti with well-struck effort from 25 yards.

Half-time: Czech Republic 0-1 Italy. The Italians appear to be in control after going ahead against the run of play with a superb header from Materazzi. 46 mins UPDATE Ghana 2-1 USA: Stephen Appiah puts the Ghanaians in front from the penalty spot. Ghana 2-1 USA.

46 mins Polak deservedly receives his second yellow card and is sent-off following a challenge from behind on Totti.

7 mins A scrappy opening period is peppered by a lot of niggly fouls from both teams. You'd have expected more from such talented teams.

4 mins The Czechs start brightly and force the first corner of the match. However, Italy's defence stands firm and clears the danger.

1 min The Czech Republic kick-off in Hamburg. Ghana and the USA have begun their match in Nuremberg with all four teams still in a position to qualify for the last 16.
