Marseille president Pape Diouf has admitted the club want to sign injured Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse.

The France international, who was withdrawn from the World Cup after breaking his leg for the second time in as many years, is out of favour at Anfield and it was reported in the French press he would be rejoining Ligue 1 at Marseille.

Diouf told PA Sport: 'We are very interested in Djibril Cisse. I deny that Cisse has signed at Marseille but there has been contact between the clubs. I keep in touch with Liverpool, and I will be going there in few days to talk about Cisse.'

'I have confidence in Cisse and I think he will be okay in September or October to recover his potential.

'There is no agreement between Liverpool and Marseille yet, but we are working towards that.

'Cisse likes Marseille and Marseille is waiting for him, but there has been no signing yet.'
