Rodriguez 5, 41
Cambiasso 31

Messi 88

Full-time: Argentina walk off to rapturous applause after one of the greatest performances in World Cup history. Not only did they dominate from start-to-finish, they scored six stunning goals against a team who had conceded just one goal en route to the finals. Have we seen the 2006 World Cup winners?

90 mins: The referee takes pity on the dejected Serbian & Montenegrans, blowing for full time just 21 seconds into what should have been at least three minutes of added time.

88 mins: GOAL! The respite doesn't last long as Crespo and Tevez combine to put Messi through for goal number six. The 18-year-old 'New Maradona' holds off his marker to calmly stroke home from inside the box. 6-0.

87 mins: Despite being 5-0 up, the Argentinians continue to press forward with ruthless conviction. This time Messi puts Tevez through but the 'keeper saves well.

84 mins: GOAL! Tevez shows his class with a great individual goal to make it 5-0. Collecting the ball wide on the left, he cheekily nutmegs the first defender and then shrugs off the challenge of a second, before casually sidefooting the ball past Jevric's left hand. 5-0.

78 mins: GOAL! Riquelme releases Messi down the left, and his inviting square ball is turned home by the in-rushing Crespo at the back post. 4-0.

77 mins: Gavrancic's shot from wide on the right

74 mins: Lionel Messi makes his World Cup debut in place of Maxi Rodriguez.

74 mins: Argentine penalty appeals are turned down when Crespo is fouled in the area.

70 mins: Serbia & Montenegro make their final substitution with the introduction of Zvonimir Vukic for captain Savo Milosevic. It is a straight swap at centre forward.

65 mins: Mateja Kezman, who was verbally warned by Italian referee Roberto Rosetti for a late tackle minutes earlier, is shown a straight red card for a careless two-footed lunge on Mascherano.

61 mins: Tevez gives us a glimpse of why he is rated the best player in the Brazilian league when he escapes the close attentions of three Serbian players with a combination of power and skill.

58 mins: Carlos Tevez comes on for Javier Saviola for Argentina.

55 mins: A Riquelme free-kick from 22 yards comes back off the wall and, from the break, Kezman almost sets Milosevic up for a header on goal.

52 mins: Another fine example of the fluency and intricacy of Argentina's play sees Saviola through before they are called back for a marginal, but correct, offside call.

51 mins: Crespo finds space to release a shot from 20 yards which takes a slight deflection before Jevric gathers nervously.

49 mins: Striker Ljuboja comes on for midfielder Koroman as the Serbians chase the game.

46 mins: Milosevic forces a good save from Abbondanzieri with a blistering shot from 30 yards.

46 mins: Serbia & Montenegro introduce midfielder Ivan Ergic for defender Albert Nadj.

Half time: Argentina 3-0 Serbia & Montenegro.

41 mins: GOAL! Argentina are making it look so simple, as Rodriguez claims his second of the afternoon. Robert Ayala takes the ball off Krstajic, the Valencia defender cuts inside his man and blasts and angled shot goalwards. His shot drifts past the far post but Rodriguez is on hand to knock it home. 3-0.

36 mins: Saviola plays a fine through-ball to Hernan Crespo who lobs the goalkeeper to score what likes a fine goal. However, the referee wrongly rules it out for off-side and then books Crespo for playing on after the whistle. Ridiculous decision.

31 mins: GOAL! Subsitute Cambiasso scores what will probably go down as the best goal of the World Cup. A stunning passing movement involving most of the Argentinean team ends as Crespo's clever back-heel allows Cambiasso to blast the ball home from eight yards. An absolute peach of a goal. 2-0.

27 mins: Riquelme picks up the ball midway into the Serbia & Montenegro half. He charges forward leaving two Serbian players in his wake before unleashing a shot from the edge of the box which sails over.

21 mins: Serbia & Montenegro seem to have recovered from the early goal and are slowly edging their way back into the game.

18 mins: Argentina are forced into an early change and Luis Gonzalez is stretchered with what looks like a hamstring injury. Cambiasso comes on to replace him.

15 mins: Serbia claim their first corner-kick of the game. Stankovich swings it in, but it's all too easy for goalkeeper Abbondanzieri to come and collect it.

11 mins: Argentina have a free-kick from 40 yards out. Riquelme lifts it into the penalty area where Sorin connects with it, but his efforts goes wide.

7 mins: Serbia & Montenegro look frustrated already as Koroman picks up a foolish yellow card that will rule him out of his side's clash with Ivory Coast.

5 mins: GOAL! Argentina in front after just five minutes. They break down the left flank at pace and Saviola pulls the ball back for Maxi Rodriguez who blasts the ball home without even breaking stride. Fine goal all around. 1-0.

1 min: Argentina start brightly as Juan Roman Riquelme attacks down the left flank. Serbia & Montenegro will have to keep a close eye on him if they are to get anything out of the game today.
