Spain 4-0 Ukraine
Alonso 13 Vashchuk s/o 47
Villa 17, pen 48
Torres 81
Spain thrashed Ukraine 4-0 in the searing heat of Leipzig to take a firm grip on Group H. Liverpool's Xabi Alonso opened the scoring with Fernando Torres completing the rout after David Villa had scored the other two. Villa's second was from the penalty spot after referee Massimo Busacca had bizarrely decided to send off Vladislav Vashchuk for an offence that remains unclear.
Full-time Spain 4-0 Ukraine
89 mins: You have to be crazy to be a goalkeeper, eg Iker Casiallas. The Spanish netminder tears out of his gaol in an attempt to beat Andriy Voronin to a high ball but fails miserably. Pablo makes a last-ditch tackle to save the day for Spain.
87 mins: A long-range effort from David Albelda is saved comfortably by Olexandr Shovkovskiy.
86 mins: Raul just fails to get on the end of a beautifully weighted pass from the influential Torres.
81 mins: Fernando Torres fires home a superb fourth goal. Carles Puyol raids forward and links up with substitute Raul before Torres lashes a fierce volley into the Ukrainian net.
77 mins: Arsenal starlet Cesc Fabregas becomes Spain's youngest World Cup player after coming on for Luis Garcia.
75 mins: Voronin's free kick is easily saved by Iker Casillas following a clumsy foul by Ramos on Andriy Shevchenko.
73 mins: Andriy Vorobey crosses from the left but his low cross from the left is ballooned over the bar from inside the penalty area by Rebrov.
67 mins: A Spain attack comes to nothing as Raul heads tamely into the hands of Ukraine keeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy.
64 mins: Senna converts a Xabi corner but the header is disallowed for a Sergio Ramos foul on Volodymyr Yesercky.
63 mins: Tottenham reject Serhiy Rebrov enters the fray for a desperate Ukraine, replacing an ineffective Rusaln Rotan.
61 mins: Andriy Voronin drives a powerful effort just wide from just outside the area following a well-worked one-two with Anatoly Timoschuk.
54 mins: Spain make a double substitution with goalscorers David Villa and Xabi Alonso making way for veteran Raul and David Albelda.
51 mins: Villa wastes a fine opportunity to claim his hat-trick. Presented with a clean shot on goal after a great run through the Ukraine defence from Alonso, the Valencia striker blasts his effort straight at the goalkeeper.
48 mins: GOAL! Villa slots home the resulting penalty, although Shovkovskiy gets close to it.
47 mins: RED CARD! Vashchuk is sent off for a dubious foul on Fernando Torres. Torres was clean through on goal and managed to get his shot off, which was saved, but the referee harshly ruled that Vashchuk denied him a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Half-time: Spain 2-0 Ukraine.
44 mins: Villa really should have made it three for Spain. The striker sprinted clear down the right side but fired his shot against goalkeeper Shovkovskiy, as he appeared to try and nut-meg him.
42 mins: A clever through ball from Shevchenko puts Voronin clear through on the Spanish goal before the referee calls the play back for offside. Replays suggest he got it wrong.
37 mins: Ukraine have come into the game more in the last few minutes, but they are still struggling to make any headway up front with Shevchenko still isolated. As predicted, the tempo of the game has dropped in the heat.
33 mins: Torres gets on the end of near-post corner from Xavi, but his header blazes over the bar. Ukraine are looking increasingly vunerable from set-pieces.
28 mins: Ukraine launch a rare sortie into the Spanish half. A decent cross from Shevchenko is well cleared by Ramos.
23 mins: Spain are in complete control of the match. The trio of Villa, Garcia and Torres up front are causing Ukraine no end of problems. Shevchenko is looking increasingly isolated up front for the Ukrainians.
17 mins: GOAL! David Villa's long-range free-kick takes a cruel deflection of the wall and leaves Shovkovskiy stranded as the ball sails past him and into the net.
13 mins: GOAL! Xabi Alonso scores with a free header from the corner-kick. Terrible marking from Ukraine.
13 mins: A blistering long-range shot from Senna forces a fine save from Shovkovskiy, the ball goes out for a Spanish corner-kick.
12 mins: Shevchenko sprints clear of the Spanish defence only for the referee to call him back with a questionable offside decision.
8 mins: Garcia and Villa link up well on the edge of the Ukraine penalty area. A neat one-two allows Garcia to have a crack, but he fires over from a tight angle.
5 mins: Ukraine are awarded a free-kick just inside the Spanish half. It's swung in from the left and Volodimir Yezerski heads it just over, under pressure.
4 mins: Xavi has the first sight of goal from the edge of the Ukraine penalty area but he shoots low and wide of Shovkovsky's right-hand post.
3 mins: A very lively start to the game, surely the tempo will drop in the sweltering heat. Spain have lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Liverpool's Luis Garcia playing just behing David Villa and Fernando Torres.
