Former Republic of Ireland midfielder John Sheridan was yesterday appointed Oldham Athletic manager following the departure of Ronnie Moore.

Sheridan had been operating as reserve team coach at Boundary Park but was offered and accepted the top job just over a year after his eleven week stint as Oldham caretaker boss following the departure of Ian Dowie.

According to an official at the club 41-year-old Sheridan will be operating on a non-contractual basis until he proves himself as boss.

The official said that they were delighted that Sheridan had accepted the offer at the League One side adding that they will be reviewing the position as next season progresses.
