Vikings score battling win over UCD

Clinically taken second half goals from Mark Rooney and Robbie Hedderman gave Dublin City a 2-1 victory – their second win on the bounce - to lift them into the top half of the Premier Division table before a very sparse attendance at Dalymount Park.

Boosted by a third minute lead, UCD enjoyed the better of the first half.

The marking was negligent from Darragh Ryan’s delivery from the first corner of the night and Paul Byrne arrived at the near post to power a header to the roof of the net for his third goal of the season.

If they struggled to get into the game in the first  45 minutes, Vikings were much better in the second half and Rooney brought the save of the night from Darren Quigley on 58 minutes before hitting the equaliser three minutes later.

Captain for the night Freeman put him in on goal and Rooney was calmness personified as he stroked the ball past Quigley.

Hedderman then found space in the UCD box to head home the winner from Robbie Collins’ 81st minute corner to give Dublin no more than they deserved.
