League champions Cork City moved to the top of the Eircom Premier Division as they ended great rivals Shelbourne's unbeaten league record, winning 2-1, in front of 5,500 fans at Turner's Cross tonight.

Shelbourne took the lead 4 minutes before half-time when Jason Byrne blasted home a penalty off the hands of Michael Devine, after Byrne was brought down as he attempted to go around the Cork goalkeeper.

But what a reply from the home side, as midfielder George O'Callaghan brilliantly curled a 22-yard free-kick high into the roof of the Shels' net.

Then Cork made it three goals in the space of seven minutes, when just after the break, Roy O'Donovan took on the visiting defence before setting up Neale Fenn who struck a shot past the stranded Delaney, for what proved to be the winning goal.
